If you are concerned about an older adult, Hourglass Scotland provides: 

  • Support for older people who have experienced, or are at risk of, any kind of harm, abuse or exploitation.
  • Support for anyone concerned about an older person e.g family, friends, neighbours, carers or health professionals etc.
  • Information and advice relating to safer ageing and prevention.

The Hourglass Helpline is entirely confidential, free to call from a landline or mobile, and the number won’t appear on your phone bill. Help is just a phone call away.

If you are concerned that an adult might be affected by any kind of harm, abuse, exploitation or neglect or you have an urgent concern you can call any of the following numbers: 

  • Aberdeen City Adult Protection Social Work Team/Out of Hours Social Work Team(24 hours): 0800 731 5520 
  • Police Scotland: 101 
  • Care Inspectorate: 0345 600 9527 

If you don't need urgent help or advice, and are clear that the adult is 'at risk', as defined by the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 (see Guidance Note for more information), you can report your concern to Aberdeen City Council using the following Reporting Form.
