Health and social care services in Aberdeen have linked up in a new deal with a city housing association to help keep people safe and sound in their homes.

Castlehill Housing Association’s specialist Care & Repair service has entered a long-term arrangement with Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership (ACHSCP) to make life easier for vulnerable folk living in their own home or in privately rented accommodation.

Care & Repair helps to promote independent living for older people, people with disabilities and those with long-term health conditions. It offers advice, assistance and benefits checks to help homeowners and private tenants repair, improve or adapt their homes so that they can live in comfort and security in their local communities.

The new long-term working arrangement between ACHSCP and Care & Repair follows a workshop which brought together the city’s Strategic Home Pathways Lead, social workers, care company Bon Accord Care and Aberdeen City Council housing officials who specialise in local authority and private sector homes.
The workshop aimed to ensure that Care & Repair’s services meet the strategic priorities of the Health and Social Care Partnership.

Castlehill Chief Executive Officer David Lappin said: “This partnership will ensure that Care & Repair can continue its work in the city without having to reapply for funding yearly. This means it can concentrate fully on its great work for older people and others who are vulnerable, right across the city.”

ACHSCP Strategic Home Pathways Lead Kay Diack said: “This new working relationship is great news for private renters and home-owners who will benefit from expert advice to make their homes warmer, safer and more suited to their own circumstances. It will help the Partnership and Care & Repair too, in terms of developing new ideas and planning for the future.”

Karen Milne, who manages Care & Repair, said: “This security of funding means that Care & Repair can look to the future and progress plans which will be of great help to the people of Aberdeen. It also gives our knowledgeable staff more job stability, so they can concentrate on the schemes we currently offer, while developing new and exciting projects.”
