Open days celebrate learning disability week

Fri 5 Sep 2025

A series of special open days will go ahead next week to mark Scottish Learning Disability Awareness Week.

The Vaccination Centre in Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Centre will throw open its doors from 9am-4pm on Monday-Friday, 08-14 September, to invite folk in to find out more about learning disability services and activities.

The 2025 awareness week, on the theme of “ I am here” will see display tables and presentations where service providers will explain their work.

People supported by the various services will also be on hand to explain how the providers help them in their daily lives and detail the achievements they have made.

The week will open on Monday 08 September with a short performance at 10.15am 10.30am from Aberdeen’s Makaton Choir and a local dance group, whose membership is made up of people with disabilities.

Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership (ACHSCP) adult learning disabilities service manager Katharine Paton said: “The week will allow us to show off the wide range of services on offer in the city and present positive stories from supported people about how they are living enriching lives, being valued in their communities, and fulfilling their dreams because of the support they receive.”

Providers attending during the week include the Affinity Trust, Community Integrated Care, Advocacy Service Aberdeen, ACHSCP’s Care Management Team members, SRS Care Solutions, Learning Disability nurses, AMZ Activities Group and Create Aberdeen.

A raffle will also be held, with the draw to be made on the Friday afternoon.
