Consultation opens on British Sign Language plan

Tue 10 Jul 2018

Formal consultation has opened on Aberdeen’s British Sign Language (BSL) Draft Action Plan, which has now been published.

The draft plan, which sets out commitments to improving services and information for the BSL user community, has also been published in BSL at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgvF3_ERk2o.

Views on the document are now welcome, with consultation open until 21 August. Details on how to submit comments and queries are included in the draft plan.

There will be an opportunity to participate in a drop-in session in August, and meetings will be held with community representatives and employees who are BSL users.

Special thanks go to all the Deaf and Deafblind representatives who have supported the production of the draft plan. Please contact intertrans@aberdeencity.gov.uk for any BSL interpreting support you may need to enable you to give feedback on the plan.

Once feedback has been taken into account, the plan will be presented for formal approval to appropriate council committees and to Aberdeen’s Integration Joint Board in due course. The final plan will be published in October 2018.
